1. What is the Qi Protocol?
The Qi protocol is a wireless charging standard formulated by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Its main purpose is to enable compatible wireless charging between different brands and devices. A unified standard allows users to confidently purchase and use chargers and devices from various brands. As long as there is a Qi logo, they are generally interoperable.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) was officially established in 2008 and released the first Qi wireless charging standard in 2010, marking the beginning of a unified protocol era in the wireless charging industry. Since then, the Qi protocol has continuously iterated:

(1) Does your phone support wireless charging?
To determine if your phone supports wireless charging, please check the specifications on the manufacturer’s website or in the user manual. Additionally, look for the Qi logo on the device or its packaging. Some models may also mention wireless charging in their settings or provide an option to enable it.
(2) Do Phones with Qi Wireless Charging Function Need a Magnetic Phone Case?
Currently, phones and wireless chargers on the market support the latest Qi2 protocol. Wireless chargers have a magnetic attraction effect (MPP protocol), which uses magnets to automatically align the phone with the optimal charging position on the charger, thereby improving charging efficiency and stability. In traditional Qi wireless charging, the phone must be placed in the “aligned position” to charge properly. If misaligned, it can easily result in: slower charging speed, severe overheating, or simply not charging. Apple introduced MagSafe starting with the iPhone 12, with a ring of magnets built into the phone that can directly attach to a magnetic wireless charger. For phones with the Qi2 protocol that do not have built-in magnets, a magnetic phone case is needed to achieve this effect.
